Joe was a professional. Our twenty-member English Department met for two hours every week and we often had philosophical differences, but when the meeting finished, we focused on the positives and worked together to help the students. Joe was a go-to person for input on correcting questionable test papers. He knew English and he knew the guidelines and he was always ready to reread papers and give his opinion which I valued. Likewise, he did not hesitate to ask for advice. He was a no-nonsense teacher who really worked hard to help his students learn.

To the McHale family, I am deeply sorry for your loss. Although, Mr. McHale and I did not always see eye to eye, he was an outstanding teacher. The one that I will remember the rest of my life. I feel bad that I only saw him one more time a after graduation,1972. Dep. Joseph Higgins Erie County Sheriff’s Office (Retired)

I was a student at CCHS and graduated in 1976. Although I never had Mr. McHale as an English teacher, I did have him for study hall. He was always straight forward with the students and although you might not think a first, he was approachable and willing to help. My sincerest condolences to his family.
